Kitchen fire damages Oakley home

OAKLEY — A cooking fire got out of hand and heavily damaged a home Monday evening.
The blaze, which was reported at 8:09 p.m. at 4881 Dawson Drive, began in the kitchen and quickly spread to the living room and family room of the single-story building, acting East Contra Fire battalion chief Cliff Spediacci said.
Two adults and one child were home at the time and they were not harmed, Spediacci said.
The fire department responded with five engines and 13 firefighters, who had the blaze under control in 20 minutes, he said.
Investigators estimated the fire caused $300,000 in damages.
