"Police initially said about six young men were involved in the attack. But investigators said Tuesday that they now believe that as many as 10 assailants, ranging in age from 15 to their early 20s, committed a 'slew of crimes' against the girl — including raping her and stealing her jewelry. The men laughed and took photos as they took turns assaulting the girl, police said."

— An Oct. 28 report on National Public Radio about the Richmond gang rape case

NPR GOT ITS report wrong. There were no men involved in the Oct. 24 attack at Richmond High School. Only boys — stupid, ignorant, untrained, reprehensible, morally bereft boys.

How does it happen? Why do some little boys grow into honorable men, while others morph into monsters?

If it's genetics, if some guys are just destined to be evil, we're in trouble. If that's the case, other than locking them up, there's nothing we can do.
